Ronald McDonald House Dallas is looking for a highly organized and motivated individual to become an intern for eight weeks. The role requires a minimum commitment of 3 days a week, eight hours per day. The successful intern will gain firsthand exposure to how an organization operates strategically and efficiently. They will learn how business decisions are made, how departments collaborate to achieve organizational goals, and how effective leadership drives culture, accountability, and results
SUMMARY:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) Internship at Ronald McDonald House of Dallas provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit executive leadership, operations management, and strategic decision-making.
Under the direct mentorship of the COO, the intern will gain exposure to high-level organizational operations including facilities, family services, volunteer services, hospitality programs, and cross-functional leadership. The intern will shadow executive leadership, support operational initiatives, and contribute to projects that directly impact families served.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE:
- Working closely with the COO and senior leadership team, the intern will:
- Observe executive-level decision-making and organizational strategy
- Participate in planning, coordination, and execution of operational initiatives
- Gain exposure to nonprofit management, risk management, and service delivery models
- Interact with internal departments and external partners
- Support real-time problem-solving in a fast-paced environment
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Shadow the COO in daily operations, meetings, and strategic discussions
- Assist with preparation of reports, dashboards, and board-level materials
- Support tracking and analysis of operational metrics (occupancy, meals, volunteers, maintenance, etc.)
- Assist in project coordination across departments (Facilities, Family Services, Volunteer Services, Kitchen Operations)
- Conduct research and develop recommendations for process improvements
- Help draft internal communications, policies, and procedures
- Support vendor coordination and operational follow-ups
- Attend leadership meetings and assist with documentation and action tracking
- Assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned
QUALIFICAQTIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university (undergraduate or graduate program)
- Preferred fields: Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or related field
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred
- No prior work experience required, but leadership or campus involvement is a plus
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong interest in nonprofit leadership, healthcare/hospitality operations, or business administration
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Analytical mindset with problem-solving ability
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- High attention to detail and accountability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standard office environment
- May occasionally assist with light operational tasks (lifting up to 25–30 lbs if needed)
